SSUS for a better understanding....

I've been extremely busy this last week, in fact I still am so I'll make this short.

The One School for All (SSUS) campaign has attracted a lot of publicity, either in cyber space or in the real space. Why? Because the proponents that attack this noble cause of unification are spinning it the other way around.

Instead of seeing the SSUS campaign for it's value: forging unity and better understanding among the young, these racists have turned around and called the campaign an attack against vernecular schools.

They have even gone so far as to quote the constitution. Saying that it is their right to maintain vernecular schools. These rights, in their view, must not and cannot be challenged as if it were carved in stone.

That being the case, I suggest that they too shut the hell up when think they need to question Bumiputra rights and privilages. Our special rights were carved in stone too. What makes you so special and us not?

Enough of bending over and taking it up our behinds. If certain leaders or their kind (meaning racist) wish to lodge police reports against the organizers of this initiative, I say do it and face the consequences of the same. Since the so-called victory of our "guests" in this land last March, the racists have come out in droves requesting this and that be changed, reduced, wiped-out in the name of equality and fairness. Meritocracy, kononnya, should be the order of the day. A level playing field is harped and barked each chance they get.

Isn't having a "One School for All" levelling the playing field? Isn't it meritocracy when they are all judged on merit when they sit for the SAME exams in the SAME schools teaching the SAME syllabus? Isn't putting them under the SAME care of the SAME teachers equal and fair?

If you want to keep your SJK's, by all means do so but please don't ever you dare question the rights of others when you don't allow others the same benefit. And they have the cheek to harp and bark about equality. Pegidah!!!! I've heard so much of these types using the phrase "walk the talk". A rhetoric of theirs that they themselves cannot practice.

And what's up with the police report? Didn't they all say that they wanted freedom of speech, the right to discuss, agreeing to disagree blah, blah, blah, blah.... Tong kosong. Cakap tak serupa bikin. With freedom of speech comes freedom of expressing views, thoughts and ideas. If the proposers are asked to shut up with threats of legal action and police investigations then they are no more open about freedom of speech as say Myanmar then. Lock us all up for having ideas will you?

This is not about BN vs Pakatan anymore. This is about the betterment of society. Improving race-relations. I personally hate the word "tolerant". Why do we say racial "tolerance"? To tolerate something is to put up with it even though we hate it. That's tolerance. We should instead be promoting better "understanding". Through better "understanding" comes respect and knowing one's boundaries and that's what the One School for All aims to achieve, among other National agendas, a better "understanding".

As an example, I have a neighbour who has an irritating dog whom my neighbour let's loose out of his compund every now and then. The dog ocassionally comes near me and I avoid it, in the process I get annoyed. Simply because the animal is Najis Mughallazah. The owner then comes to me and tries to tell me that his dog does not bite. Who the hell cares if it bites or not? I don't want it near because to me my religion has guidelines regarding contact with such animals. Had my neighbour had a better "understanding" of Malays' do's and don'ts (and vice-versa), that stupid, repeatative situation would not have occured. But because of the lack of "understanding", we instead have "tolerance". I "tolarate" his ignorance and my neighbour "tolarates" my annoyance. Is this how we want our society to evolve?

For the betterment of multi-racial race-relations look at the bigger picture please. Unifying us together as Malaysians does not make me less Malay or less Muslim and certainly does not make my neighbour any less Chinese. Instead it promotes a better understanding of our different-raced Malaysian brothers and sisters. When they are schooled together, they'll study together, play together, eat together and more importantly "understand" each other, respect and be aware of the do's and don'ts of their colleagues' race and/or religion. It will work both ways, trust me. Is creating that awarenes through better undertsanding too much to ask?

This is bigger than politics so stop being manipulated by wanna-be populist politicians like Wee Ka Siong and look at the bigger picture please....

Cheers!

Salam Tuan Melayu Lama;

I haven't had my breakfast yet. And I definitely think this is better. It fills me up holistically - my mind, my spirit, my hope, my disappointment at biawak hidup, musuh dalam selimut and pagar makan padi.

Sir this is the first time I encounter you in this mood .. it will only spoil your swings at the golf course .. heh heh that would be ... ouch!

Outch .. to such YB Menteris.

Salam Saudaras.

Saudara Dhahran Sea,

It is we stopped bending over backwards and stood up for what we believe in. Like I said, this is bigger than politics or political personalities.

The minute a politician comes out to gain from it, especially for popularity's sake, then we know the politician is not genuine. But you know something? Genuine or not I don't care anymore. This is bigger than politics and politicians.

We must stand our ground be firm yet fair. We are not uncultured and unreasonable. We have "tolerated" their antics for 52 years. They have the cheek to not even consider the idea. That is just rude. It's now or never so stand our ground.

Saudara Dal,

My mood is obvious? My apologies. I always believe that decorum should be maintained regardless of situation. The thing is I had been rather busy this past week. Unavoidably busy. Have kept in very little contact with the world, so to speak. Hardly even watched the news and when I did decide to update myself on the latest happenings, all I got were "pening"s instead. Pening at watching a decent idea like SSUS being manipulated by the irresponsible.

When will we ever stop politicizing our education system? Our young should not be the gambling chips of our politicians. They should instead be like bonds, valued as a long term investment.

Anyway, it's back to work for me.

Salam.

Salam sejahtera,

Dari peringkat rakyat biasa hinggalah ke peringkat pemimpin negara, masing-masing telah mempamerkan "warna" yang sebenar yang saya kira tidak secocok dengan satu Bangsa Malaysia.

Salam,

Even the Malays nowdays are ignorant of our traditional values, wisdoms and virtues. Let alone do's and don'ts...How can we teach them these values when we ourselves did not cherish the good old ways. It is easier to join the boat (threadmill) in the culture and religion people called "MONEY $GOD$". We sold out our Malay for $$$, not so much for a jet setting life, but just enough to pay the multiple various bills that keep on turning up at our door steps, even after our death...

Yes, everytime a Malay poses ideas that does not suit the non-malays, that Malay will be labelled racist. But when the non-Malays question the Malay's right, then it is done in the name of democracy, justice, equality, humanity and shits like that. Malays have been too tolerance towards the guests. We sacrificed a lot for them which I don't think their own motherlands would do it for them. Now they want to step on our head, spit at us and ridicule us. I don't think we would be treated like we are treating them if we were the guests in their motherlands. They are ungrateful, greedy and arrogant. Malays should be united when their rights are threatened. Put aside all differences be it political or whatever!

Salam Tuan Melayu Lama,

I could that you've been busy. Mintak maaf if the last comment I posted did somehow interfere with your tight schedule.

I also did my part confronting the opponents of SSUS. Do drop by whenever you're free.

Salam Saudaras,

Saudara Gudisuno,

Welcome back. It's been a while since you posted a comment. Anyway, I think we have always been accomodating to our guests but somehow the guests have taken it the wrong way and feel the need to take over our roles as hosts.

I think back in their mother land (I say mother land because they love their mother tongue so much) they will not ever receive such hospitality. We have been accomodating but it is they who have misinterpreted that hospitality as out weakness. Hope the new leadership draws the line somewhere.

Saudara Piggy,

No need to apologize. I needed the reminder. After being out of touch with what's been happening, I was shocked to see the attacks made on such a noble campaign as SSUS. The attackers have clearly taken things out of perspective. I feel their retaliation is out of ignorance, fear and political manipulation.

Also bro, I'm wondering. Where's Umno Youth in all this? They used to bite as loud as they barked. Then they stopped bitting. Now they don't even bark at all. KJ has reduced what was once Umno, guards and first line of defence into mere pets.

Anyway, thanks again for updating me and I will pop by at yours later.

Salam.

Salam Saudari Peacebuy,

Yes, the Malay themselves have lost their way and shed their values to become what we see today: Melayu Baru. The neither here nor there Malays. But one thing is clear. The Melayu Baru's are suffering from a loss of identity and extreme racial polarization.

It is hoped that the new school system, if it happens, forges the bond again among the different races and restore that old Malay identity to keep up with the current times.

Salam.

Salam,

For more than 50 years, if there is ever a 'universal unity' acrossed the multiracial and multiracists Malaysia. It would have been so. WHY isn't that so????? Why cant we see through our skin colours and voice accents and unite as one Malaysia. ....the answer is.....as long as our oor arrr emmm.... SOCCER TEAM has not revived to the old glory....there is no unity in Malaysia.

I have a created an article on this, please view at Gempamelayu..I usually do not touch on this kind of issue but I am promoting Sekolah Melayu/Arab so it's necessary for me to put my view on this matter.
